Following the Tsunami which affected South Asia, and in particular Sri Lanka, on Boxing Day of 2004, we have put together a special tailor made tour just for Discover the World clients in order to give our support to the country.
The recent tragedy may deter people from visiting Sri Lanka but it is worth noting that the last time that a Tsunami hit Sri Lanka was in 220 BC. We feel that if people stop visiting Sri Lanka, the country will never fully recover, as tourism brings in most of the country's economy.
Our new and exciting independent holiday covers areas that were not affected by the Tsunami in any way, and focuses on wildlife watching in many different national parks. Areas include the infamous Nuwara Eliya and the Horton Plains National Park, Kandy and Polonnaruwa. We also visit less well-known national parks such as the Wilpattu National Park, one of the most beautiful and largest parks on Sri Lanka and home to leopard, sloth bear, langur and torque monkey and much more. We also include plenty of bird watching during the 13-day trip and various opportunities to see elephants, including wild elephants and a visit to the Elephant Orphanage.
Prices start from £1185 per person based on two sharing and daily departures run from January through to December 2005. Price includes return flights between Heathrow and Colombo; 11 nights accommodation in hotels with private facilities on half board basis (breakfasts and dinners); transportation in an air-conditioned car with an English speaking chauffeur guide; entrance fees to all places of interest and National Parks; all jeep safaris; crew subsistence; services of local guides in the parks and UK airport taxes
