An ususual flush of success for Northland
You would never have thought that a bathroom was much of an attraction but hang on, there is one special place in Northland where toilets are the talk of the town! The Kawakawa toilets (Bay of Islands) were recently awarded the prestigious Golden Plunger Award - a worldwide search for the best public toilets as voted by travelling public!

The Kawakawa toilets were designed and built by internationally renowned Austrian artist and architect Frederick Hundertwasser, who first visited Northland in 1970. Hundertwasser designs using a very recognisable style which features no straight lines, recycled bottles, ceramic pots, and the use of plants and trees.

Stretching 350km north from Auckland, Northland is New Zealand’s only sub-tropical region and the perfect place to visit if you love sunshine and glorious beaches. If you fancy a trip to Northland, Discover the World offers a range of exciting holidays and tailor-made trips. Contact 01737 218804 for further information or you can view our holidays online by visiting the website www.discover-the-world.co.uk/newzealand.
