Whale watch or have a dip with dolphins...

Do some whale watching that’s been on everyone’s ‘to do’ list. We have a selection of different whale-watching holidays - guaranteed to fulfil any wildlife enthusiast’s dreams this summer:

Whale-watching in Mull, Scotland

If you love the idea of watching spectacular wildlife and being at sea, then you won’t have to travel too far to get more than a glimpse of magnificent whales and dolphins. The Hebridean Sea, around the strikingly beautiful Isle of Mull, is one of the richest areas for wildlife in Britain. It is home to minke whales, common dolphins, harbour porpoises and a variety of other cetaceans. There are also otters, seals, seabirds, eagles and basking sharks.

During this holiday there are two full day whale watching trips and a chance to participate in the study of the resident minke whales. Explore Mull's diverse landscape, possibly landing on remote and uninhabited islands and deserted sandy beaches and experience a fabulous overland safari.

Prices for this 6-day tour start from £495 per person based on twin share. Price includes transfers between the ferry terminal on Mull and the guesthouse in Tobermory, five nights accommodation in a room with private facilities, all breakfasts, one lunch whilst on day safari, two eight hour whale watching excursions and one full day overland safari. Please note that the price does not include the cost of travelling to Craignure, Mull, lunches (apart from one) and evening meals.

The 2005 tour departs on the following dates:
28th May, 25th June, 16th July, 13th August, 10th September

This tour can also be done on an individual basis anytime from May - September.

Whale- watching in Boston

Our ‘On the Trail of the Whale’ holiday is a 9-day adventure based just north of Boston where you search for whales off the New England coast (not a difficult task!). Being in the company of local whale researchers, our specially chartered boat means close encounters are almost guaranteed!

You are almost certain to see humpback whales, fin whales, minke whales and large schools of Atlantic white-sided dolphins in the area. During the holiday we hope to see all these species at close range!

Prices start from £1655 per person based on twin share. Price includes return flights to Boston (via Iceland), airport transfers to and from hotel, accommodation in rooms with private facilities, meals as described, four full day (approx 6 hours) and one half day (approx 3.5 hours) guided whale watching trips, services of WE guide and airport taxes.

We are pleased to be able to offer a two-day extension in Iceland on an individual or group basis. Fly to Boston via Iceland and, en route, spend two nights in the beautiful city of Reykjavik. For further information or to make a booking, please contact our wildlife team on 01737 218802 or visit http://www.wildlife-encounters.co.uk/tour15

We also offer other whale watching holidays in other parts of the USA, Iceland and the Azores. Just visit our Wildlife Encounters website to find out more.

Dolphin-watching in Gibraltar

During this wonderful trip to Gibraltar, you’ll have superb opportunities to view dolphins close to shore, see the famous Barbary apes and sightsee around 'little England'.

Watch dolphins turn somersaults, leap high into the air and ride in the bow waves. They frequently come to within a few feet of the boat and the photographic opportunities are fabulous. In between the dolphin watching adventures, there will be time to explore Gibraltar's two-and- a-half square miles independently. Take a trip by cable car right to the top of the 1,400-foot 'Rock' to meet the famous Barbary Apes and admire the view from the top. Visit St Michael's Cave with its magnificent stalactites and stalagmites or you could just chill out on the beach.

Flights are now available from Heathrow and Gatwick to Gibraltar and departures are available from June 2005. Prices for this 3-night break start from £425 per person based on two sharing. Price includes return flights between London and Gibraltar, three nights accommodation in rooms with private facilities, three breakfasts, escorted dolphin watching excursions as described in the itinerary and UK departure tax.

Galapagos means tortoise

The giant tortoise is probably the best known of all Galapagos animals and even gave the archipelago its name; 'Galapago' means tortoise in Spanish and may derive from the word for saddle, referring to the distinctive saddle-like shell of some of the tortoises. Read more>>
