Sights & Sounds of Darlana

Sweden offers all the right ingredients for fly drive enthusiasts so this summer, head to Sweden’s east coast on our fabulous 3-centre trip. Explore the beautiful Dalarna countryside, get acquainted with the local wildlife and enjoy a night at the opera! You’ll also have time in vibrant Stockholm.

Many of Dalarna’s most popular attractions are dotted around the rather large and very pretty Lake Siljan. Tallberg is a typical Swedish village with a population of just 200 however; it does have some very fine restaurants and a handful of trendy boutiques. Visit nearby Rattvik’s delightful beach areas with direct access to the lake – ideal for relaxing on a summer’s day. At Nusnas, you’ll find craftsmen carefully working their magic on pieces of wood with the end result being the colourful wooden Dala horses synonymous with the area.

North of the lake at Gronklitt, is the Orsa Bear Park. Here, you’ll be able to observe specimens of Swedish wildlife in enclosures designed to mirror the natural habitats of wolf, lynx and brown bear. The bears in particular, are impressive and photo opportunities can be excellent.

One of the highlights of this holiday is of course a visit to Dalhalla, the incredible open-air auditorium chiselled out of a disused limestone quarry. The acoustics are superb, the lighting unforgettable and many performances conclude with a spectacular fireworks display. A varied programme of music and dance including opera, jazz and classical rock runs throughout the season from June to September – two tickets to a performance here are included, just check with our office team if there is something in particular you wish to see.

In August, the Dalhalla Opera & Ballet Festival takes place with special performances from the Bolshoi Theatre – tickets for these are available at a small supplement. This is such a remarkable arena that you may also wish to take a daytime guided tour - bookable and payable locally. Finally you’ll have time in Stockholm, Sweden’s vibrant capital city.

This week-long itinerary may seem to pack in rather a lot. However, with two nights in each destination, and not too many kilometres to cover in between, you’ll have plenty of time to make the most of your surroundings.

Prices start from £653 per person based on two sharing and includes return flights between London Heathrow and Stockholm; your choice of vehicle with unlimited mileage (UNL), collision damage reduction (CDR), theft protection (TP), airport service charge (APS) & local tax; accommodation as per the itinerary on a B&B basis (plus one evening meal at the Green Hotel) based on the number of vehicle occupants; airport transfers and taxes and any delivery/drop off fees.
