The Faroe Islands are known for their stunning unspoilt scenery and rich culture but they are also a destination for nature lovers. With the highest cliffs in Europe, there’s definitely no better place to see some of the greatest concentrations of seabirds and on our Bird Safari fly drive you do just that and a whole lot more besides.
Cold Arctic currents collide with the warm Gulf Stream close to the Faroe Islands, creating nutrient-rich waters and an environment ideal for a whole variety of bird life, including nesting birds and those ‘just visiting’! With more than 300 bird species identified here including kittiwake, puffin, eider, guillemot and tern, it’s a bird enthusiast’s dream and a great place for viewing huge colonies, which are not uncommon. The abundance of towering cliffs and miles upon miles of relatively uninhabited coastline provide a safe haven for breeding birds as well as some awesome lookouts from which to observe them.
