The Big Blue

If you want to be totally immersed in the thrills of whale watching and have the chance of seeing the largest creature on Earth, then take yourself to the rugged west coast of Iceland where you may encounter magnificent blue whales.

The marine rich waters of Iceland offer some of the best whale watching opportunities in Europe and with 90% sighting record of Blue whales as well as a trip to see white-tailed sea eagles and the Blue Lagoon, this is a popular holiday that is both memorable and awe-inspiring.

Encounters with cetaceans such as blue whale, humpback, orca and white-beaked dolphins are both impressively frequent and never likely to disappoint. Humpbacks are the most popular sighting amongst whale watchers but no other whale compares to the largest of all, the blue whale. The Snaefellsnes Peninsula, on the west coast of Iceland is one of the few places in world where they can be found and remains the best place in Europe to witness these cetaceans.

Based in Olafsvik, at the foot of the ice-capped volcano, you can enjoy two full days on each trip to maximise the chance of enjoying encounters with humpbacks, blues, orcas, white-beaked dolphins and harbour porpoises. Snaefellsnes peninsula also offers some impressive bird watching opportunities and on the itinerary is a bird watching cruise to see magnificent white-tailed sea eagles, along with puffins, shags and other seabirds. A swim in the surreal and incredibly relaxing waters of the Blue Lagoon, completes this great trip.

This 3-night break departs on the 7th, 10th and 14th July 2005 and prices start from £1088 per person based on two sharing. This includes flights between London Heathrow and Keflavik, all excursions as described in the itinerary, services of local whale watching experts on the boat and a local guide, 3 nights accommodation at Hotel Olafsvik in room with private facilities, all breakfasts, two packed lunches, one light supper, one evening meal and airport taxes.
