Aboard specially converted, traditional oak fishing boats, minkes are frequently spotted within twenty minutes of leaving the harbour, as are boisterous schools of white-beaked dolphins. Larger whales such as humpback, fin and sei are also occasionally sighted.
Birding enthusiasts will be thrilled by the abundance of species, both on and around Lake Myvatn as well as along the rugged coastline. As one of Europe’s premier bird watching locations the photo opportunities are superb – see Harlequin duck, Barrow’s Goldeneye, Red-breasted Merganser, Red-throated diver and countless more species
